Joined Grays Athletic in the summer of 2005 and made his debut in the opening match of the 2005/06 season away at Burton Albion. After a great start to the 2006/07 season in which he scored 10 goals in 19 appearances, he signed for Wolves on loan with a view to a permanent deal. In only his second game for the club, he scored the winner in a 1-0 victory over QPR - he later signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the club on 2nd January 2007. Since signing for Wolves, his form has attracted the attention of Manchester United, Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Everton.|
Kightly started his career as a trainee with Essex neighbours Southend United, but after just 19 appearances for the club was released and signed for Grays Athletic. During his time at Southend, Kightly also had a three month loan spell at Farnborough.
